Checkout these 'every day' issues in the Economist (selected covers from 2003-2006). Of course, they are always presented as single issues but put them together and they tell a nice story of unsustainability. Here's my quick categorization against the TNS Sustainability Principles - not rocket science by any means:

  • Sustainability Principle I - climate change, peak oil, hurricanes
  • Sustainability Principles II and III - toxic spills, the death of environmentalism, overconsumption
  • Sustainability Principle IV - third world debt, terrorism, political abuse of power, George Bush, wealth inequality, globalisation and 'free' trade, riots...
